      Hyundai India registers 12.8% rise in domestic sales, export fall by 37.3%

      South Korean auto maker, Hyundai’s Indian subsidiary, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, witnessed rise in domestic sales in the month of May, 2014 by 12.8 per cent. HMIL sold 36,205 units last month as compared to 32,102 units in the same time period last year. Rising popularity of its newly launched compact sedan Xcent and already trending hatchback Grand i10 hatchback led to hike in sales in India. On the other hand, export witnessed slump with just 15,513 units shipped last month as against 24,754 units exported in the May 2013 registering sharp a fall by 37.3 per cent. Collective sales of HMIL in May 2014 stood at 51,718 units juxtaposed to cumulative sales of 56,856 units in the same time last year.

      Commenting on the May sales Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. VP- Sales and Marketing, HMIL said, “Hyundai with a volume of 36,205 units has grown by 12.8% over last year which is in line with this year’s objective to grow in market share and volume. The phenomenal success of Xcent, Grand and Santa Fe increased volumes creating positive momentum. We foresee to maintain this positive trend by strengthening our product portfolio and improving channel efficiencies.”
