Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the largest exporter of passenger cars in India and the country’s second largest auto maker, has improved the supply of its well known diesel cars i20, a hatchback, and Verna, a sedan, modelswith the starting of April. Delivery of both the diesel cars will almost boost up by 50 per cent to 10,500 units each month, as the company currently delivers 7,000 units per month.
The conclusion to expand the delivery of diesel engine cars was followed with the Union Budget, which was presented in March. The Finance Ministry did not hike the tax implication on passenger cars and thus, there demand increased. Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing and Sales, HMIL, said, “Increased supply will ease the waiting period substantially, we expect the waiting period for the diesel Verna to drop from six months to two to three months and for the new iGen i20 to about a month.”
In order to increase the supply of both of these cars, the company has started importing diesel engines from South Korea. Saxena further added, “Our customers have shown great patience, they have waited for many months, we owe it to them to deliver our cars at the earliest.”
During last year, the domestic sales of company were reported at 373,709 units, which marked a growth of 4.8 per cent, under the review of 356,717 units of previous year.
HMIL is a completely owned division of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC). The company currently offers 8 models through its Indian car portfolio among different segments. In A2 segment, the company offers Eon, Santro, i10 and the i20, whereas the A3 segment includes Accent and the Verna. However, the A5 segment incorporates Sonata and the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment flaunts Santa Fe.
The company has set up a state-of-the-art production plant near Chennai, which features efficient production techniques with high-end quality and testing capabilities. HMIL has emerged as a crucial part of HMC’s international export centre, since the company registered exports of 1.5 million units in March 2012. The company is currently engaged in delivering vehicles to over 120 countries, which includes EU, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Asia Pacific.
For the consecutive seven years, HMIL has remained the country’s largest exporter. To remain parallel with the increasing demand, the company established its second manufacturing unit in February 2008, which has a production capacity of 330,000 vehicles per year. The company has currently maintained 343 dealers and 790 service stations throughout the country. In addition to these, the company has also established a world class research and development unit in Hyderabad, which helps the company to provide advanced technology to its customers.
