      Hyundai Grand i10 against Ford Figo and Renault Pulse

      Hyundai recently launched its all new Grand i10 in the Indian automobile market to cash in on the increasing popularity of the hatchback segment. With the launch of Grand i10, the company has filled the void between currently available i10 and i20 models, which are both performing well in the country. The new car comes equipped with a number of high-end features like sporty aerodynamics and 2nd Generation U2 diesel engine to lure domestic customers and car enthusiasts. Some of the close competitors of Grand i10 in the Indian auto market are Ford Figo and Renault Pulse.

      The comparison of Grand i10 with other hatchbacks can be started with a check on price ranges. Hyundai Grand i10 comes in a price range between Rs. 4.30 lakh and Rs. 6.42 lakh. The price range of Ford Figo and Renault Pulse are Rs. 3.98 - 6.15 lakh and Rs. 4.48 - 6.88 lakh, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Here, it can be clearly seen that Ford Figo has the highest affordability when it comes to base variant price. Notably, Hyundai Grand i10 comes next with the base price of Rs. 4.30 lakh, around Rs. 30,000 more than the Ford Figo.

      Hyundai Grand i10 can be availed with either a diesel or petrol engine option. The diesel variant comes fitted with a 2nd Generation 1120 cc 1.1-litre U2 diesel engine that can churn out a peak power output of 69 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 160 Nm at low 1,500-2,750 rpm. Its petrol version is powered by a 1197 cc 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT powertrain that can generate a power of up to 81 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. Also, both engines come mated with a 5-speed manual transmission system. Notable, the fuel tank capacity of Grand i10 is 43 litres. Furthermore, mileage offered, as per company claims, by this model is up to 18.9 kmpl for petrol version and 24 kmpl for diesel variants.

      The petrol version of Figo is driven by a 1.2-litre Duratec engine while the diesel variant get its power from a 1.4-litre Duratorq engine. The petrol engine delivers a power and torque output of 69 bhp and 102 Nm, respectively and a fuel efficiency of up to 15.6 kmpl. On the contrary, the diesel engine generates a maximum power and torque output 67 bhp and 160 Nm, respectively. The mileage offered by the diesel variant is up to 20 kmpl, which is quite impressive.

      Renault Pulse is also available in two engine options, namely petrol and diesel. The diesel version is powered by a 1461 cc Renault K9K dCi 4 mill. Notably, the diesel engine can generate a power and torque output of up to 62 bhp and 160 Nm, respectively, while the petrol variant is powered by a 1198 cc XH5 3 cylinder, in-line petrol engine. Power and torque as generated by the petrol engine are 74 bhp and 104 Nm, respectively. Adding to its performance, both these engines are mated with 5-speed manual transmission, which transmits the produced output to its wheels. The fuel tank capacity of Renault Pulse is 41 litres. Also, the petrol and diesel variants offer a mileage of around 18 kmpl and 23 kmpl, respectively.

      So, we if just glance through the specification and price data of all the abovementioned three hatchbacks, it would be pretty difficult to choose the best one and as such, customers may have to then assert to their needs to pinpoint the best pick.
