Hyundai has officially the Eon in India.

Hyundai discontinued the Eon in India

The entry-level hatchback was discontinued in December last year and now has been taken down from the carmaker’s official Indian website. The little Korean hatchback was introduced in India back in October 2011 and so it was on sale for more than eight years. It entered the fray against the undisputed segment leader and the highest selling car in India – the Alto - and yet managed to make a mark for itself, simply because it set a number of benchmarks in this entry-level segment.

Introduced with a puny 800cc engine that produced 55bhp and 75Nm of torque, the Eon also received a three-cylinder 1.0-litre Kappa mill in 2014 as a new variant. The new motor put out 65bhp and 95Nm and was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Eon never received a facelift in India but Hyundai added timely model year updates with added safety features.

Now what remains to be seen is whether Hyundai is planning a successor for the Eon. We already have the new QXI apart from the updated Grand i10, Xcent, Elite i20, and the Creta arriving in India later this year. Meanwhile, the Eon’s arch-rival, the Alto, is ready to enter a newer generation as well. It will adopt Kwid-like styling and so it won’t be a surprise if Hyundai also decides to give a crossover styling to the Eon's successor. But someone interested in buying the Eon can still do so since the dealerships might be taking orders of the Eon until the stock lasts.
