The Honda WR-V is the latest SUV from the Japanese automaker. Introduced with a starting price of Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi),it can be had across two petrol and diesel engine variants. There is no AT option as yet but it will be launched in the future for this SUV.

Honda WRV what else can you buy

The WR-V has entered a part of the market where the competition is quite fierce. It is a part of the market where the vehicles are priced decently high but at the same time have started to achieve volumes previously seen only in lower segments. This is due to a change in customer preferences which in this case is a graduation in terms of what is being bought nowadays.

While SUVs may be the latest taste in the market, the traditional players like the hatchbacks and sedans are still popular options among buyers and there is a plethora of choices where the WR-V exists. Here then is our take on what else you can buy for the prices of the individual variants of the Honda WR-V.

      Honda WR-V S petrol (Rs 7.75 lakh)

This is the entry-level model for the crossover and is priced at Rs 7.75 lakh.  This is a mid-level model in Honda’s variant trim but gets the basics like AC, music system with AUX-IN, electrically adjustable mirrors, dual airbags and ABS. For this price you can have top-of-the-line variants of the Maruti Suzuki Swift/Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent. If you are looking for something bigger, then the VXI and VXI (O) variants of the Ciaz can also be had in this similar price range. These are mid-level models with similar equipment but with all the traditional sedan trappings.

Honda WR-V VX petrol and S diesel (Rs 8.79 lakh and Rs 8.99 lakh)

This is the top spec petrol variant as well as the entry-level diesel. Given their close price range, the strategy appears to be one of features Vs benefit of diesel power. The diesel S gets the same features as the petrol S while this top-of-the-line petrol is quite loaded up actually. It has the same feature list as the City sedan so you get things like a comprehensive touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple Car Play/Mirror Link, climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, reverse camera and for the diesel- button start.

This is where the ‘SUV’ competition steps in the form of the hatchback-based crossovers. You can get mid to top level variants of the Hyundai i20 Active and the Toyota Etios Cross as well as the non- crossover but quite sporty VW Polo GT. Here the MPVs come into the fray as you get top of the line model of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy. Finally, you can also have the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster in their entry-level trims.

Honda WR-V VX diesel (Rs 9.99 lakh)

Honda’s most comprehensive offering in terms of the WR-V, this top spec diesel has the same feature list as the top of the line petrol model but with all the benefits of their 1.5-litre 98bhp/200Nm diesel mill. Here the WR-V fares up against the traditional C-segment models like the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Nissan Sunny, Renault Pulse as well as its own sibling the Honda City. In addition here it takes on its main rivals the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra Scorpio as well as the Mahindra TUV300 which can be had as AT in the top of the T8 mHawk trim level.
