After a lot of hype and buzz, Honda Vezel, was finally launched in Japan on 19th December, 2013. Although, there is no official declaration from the firm about the launch of this vehicle in India, some industry experts are of the opinion that it will be headed to the domestic market pretty soon. Four-wheel drive hybrid and gasoline models will also be made available for customers in Japan, sources have claimed.

At the time of the launch ceremony, company officials said that Vezel will be put on sale in Japan from 20th December. This all-new vehicle shows the fusion of qualities taken from SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle), coupe and minivan style. To elaborate more on the fusion part, this vehicle belongs to a new category with manifold values, which are likely to grab the attention of buyers. Exteriors of this vehicle are attractive and noteworthy due to its unique styling, taking best of utility vehicle and coupe. In typical Honda-style, interiors of this car are stylish, comfortable and loaded with features.

In words of auto company, according to a press release, “The interior, created through a comprehensive effort to realize a high quality feeling for both the look and texture, creates a coupe-like personal space for the front seats. At the same time, Honda's original centre-tank layout enabled a large cargo space and minivan-like rear seats with ample elbowroom beyond what people can imagine from the elegant exterior form.”

The Vezel Hybrid comes equipped with SPORT HYBRID i-DCD (Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive), which combines a 1.5-litre direct injection engine with a high-output motor for producing more power and ensuring an improved on-road performance. This fuel efficient vehicle will be able to offer a mileage of up to 27.0 kmpl, sources have claimed. One of the interesting facts about this vehicle is that it is the first hybrid model by Honda to see the implementation of the firm's original Real Time AWD for controlling torque distribution to front and rear wheels through an electronic mechanism.

Besides this, all Vezel variants will boast of standard high-end features like Electric Parking Brake and Automatic Brake Hold. To make for a noiseless drive, the auto company has used dampers and high-performance soundproofing materials. The hybrid model of Vezel comes equipped with Reactive Force Pedal feature. In fact, Vezel Hybrid is the first hybrid Honda model to come with this feature.

Interestingly, there is a unique logic behind the naming convention adopted for this compact SUV. In company's words, “VEZEL is a name coined from an English word “bezel” which means the oblique faces of a cut gem together with the “V” for “vehicle.” The name represents Honda's passion to create a vehicle which offers multifaceted charm and value, just like a cut gem, which changes its look depending on the angle.”

This vehicle is expected to offer a safe and peaceful driving in city and on highways as well. It boasts of outstanding passive safety by the virtue of next generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body and Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Body. Honda's original G-Force Control Technology (G-CON), as implied by the ACE body, not only improves self-protection, but also mitigates the impact on other vehicles too in case of an inadvertent collision. This vehicle also comes loaded with enhanced safety features like City-Brake Active System.

Auto experts in India feel Honda should soon introduce this vehicle in the Indian market. However, as it seems and as hinted by the company recently, it would not like to focus on model by model. Other vehicles like 4th generation City, Mobilio and Jazz are right now on the top of Honda's priority list in context of the Indian market.
