According to recent reports, Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) will increase price of its entire line-up from January first week in 2014. This is mainly to counter the booming inflation and detrimental exchange ranges, which have had a major impact on it in the current fiscal. However, exact value of the increase in price ranges is yet to be unveiled.

In a statement, HCIL Senior Vice-President, Jnaneshwar Sen, said, “We are looking to hike prices from the beginning of January. The price hike will be across our entire model range comprising Amaze, Brio, CR-V and Accord.” Sen also added that the company is “still working on the details” about the particular value of increase in prices on its individual products.

Honda India, established in 1995, is one of the premier manufacturers of passenger vehicles in India. It commits itself to offer latest models and technological advancements to Indian customers. The products of this company are manufactured at the Greater Noida unit, which has a potential to produce 100000 units per annum.

The current models for sale in India by Honda Cars India Limited, owned by the Japanese manufacturers Honda, are sports utility vehicle CR-V, hatchback Brio and sedans Accord and Amaze. Except for Amaze, which comes in both petrol and diesel versions, rest of the three models have petrol variants only. Last month had witnessed the unveiling of the all new version of Honda City, which will be sold from January 2014 in both, diesel and petrol variants.

Apart from four current models of Honda up for sale, the much-awaited City has been something that has been in news for quite sometime now. The new car will be installed with some new features that would make it more attractive to Indian customers and suitable for roads. It is expected that this model would come with the current 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine and other version will have the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel, which has earned a lot of acclaim. With the launch of this model, the manufacturer hopes to revive the erstwhile glory of this car, which was somewhat ebbed due to the launch of attractive models like Hyundai Verna, Renault Scala and Nissan Sunny.

Company back to the boost in the costs, the company had already gone for a price rise last October, in the range of Rs. 2000 to Rs. 10000 on its models. However, the upsurge in costs was unable to counter the dwindling economic conditions in the country. Also, due to the success of petrol and diesel variants of Amaze on the Indian roads, it is much in demand and the manufacturers would like to tap this fact. Nevertheless, the upsurge in the cost of models from January 2014 would not be much as the company, which has been facing stiff competition in the market, would not like to overshoot itself beyond the reach of the average Indian.
