Honda recently released a teaser of their new 2018 Accord along with details of its new powertrain. The new Accord will have three powertrain options - the 1.5-litre engine from the current car, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit from the 2018 Civic Type R, and a hybrid drivetrain.

Honda claims the new Accord to be fun-to-drive and stylish, with a new ground-up design. The camouflaged vehicle teased here promises to carry a more aggressive stance and better proportions than the outgoing model to complement the new powertrains, asserts the Japanese carmaker. The Hybrid will feature two next-generation two-motor hybrid systems. No power figures have been disclosed yet by Honda but is expected to be revealed with other technological details in the coming weeks.

The entry level four-pot engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The Type R’s turbocharged unit, on the other hand, can be had with a six-speed manual or a ‘first for a front-wheel-drive car’ 10-speed automatic developed in-house by Honda.  The Hybrid will get a conventional automatic transmission.

America’s favourite Japanese sedan will be built on a new platform shared with the new Civic. The modular platform will make the new Accord slightly smaller than the outgoing model; however, the Honda will now supply the same models to different markets. Production of the new Accord will commence later this year, at Honda’s Ohio facility, with its official debut sometime ahead of it.
