With the growing demand for compact SUVs, car manufacturers are aiming to launch compact SUVs in the Indian car market. Honda, the Japanese carmaker, is also planning to launch a compact SUV for the Indian market. It was speculated that the company will launch the Jazz based crossover- the Vezel; however, the company is aiming to bring in an all-new compact SUV for our market.

It is expected that the company is aiming to launch the Brio-based sub-4 metre SUV. Interestingly, the Brazilian unit of the Japanese maker is also working on a new mini SUV for the Brazilian market. The new SUV will be positioned below the Vezel/HR-V and is expected to be launched in Brazil in early 2016.

The new compact SUV will be cheaper than the Vezel crossover, and will be powered by a less powerful engine which is expected to be a 1.5-litre i-VTEC. Moreover, the company might also remove some premium features that are offered on the Vezel to keep its cost down. It is also expected that the new mini SUV will share its styling with the Vision XS-1 concept that was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in February. It will compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming SUVs from Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Nissan.

It will be interesting to see whether Honda will bring this new SUV in India or will stick with its current plan of launching a sub-4 metre SUV based on the Brio platform.
