Just a few months after parting ways with its Indian partner Hero Group, the Japanese auto giant Honda has overtaken the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto in the monthly sales of the month of March. Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India managed to sell a total of 2.13 lakh units of its two-wheelers in the Indian market, registering an increase of about 55 percent over the previous year. Honda’s March sales were about 2,429 units more than Bajaj Auto during this month.

However, in the total sales of financial year 2011-12, Bajaj Auto remained at the second spot by selling about 5 lakh units more than Honda Motorcycles. Honda emerged as the fastest growing two-wheeler maker in the Indian market during this financial year.

While answering a query regarding the Honda’s surging ahead of Bajaj Auto in March, Mr. K Srinivas, Bajaj Auto President, Motorcycle Business, said, "As the most profitable motorcycle manufacturer, we are indifferent to someone else's scooter sales."

The Honda’s erstwhile partner Hero, which is now known as Hero MotoCorp, is poised at the top spot in the Indian market with selling 62,35,205 units in the financial year 2011-12. The monthly sales of the company stood at 5,13,552 units during the March’12.
