Honda Motor Company, the Japanese auto maker, seems prepared to introduce its first diesel model in the entry-level sedan segment of the Indian auto industry. The on cards model from Honda will be based on the designing platform of its small car Brio and is expected to mark the presence by next fiscal.

Industry experts believe that the new model will follow the successful path adopted by swift while transforming into DZire, Polo into Vento and Fabia coming as Rapid in sedan style. All the mentioned hatchbacks were iconic models from their company's stables and were beautifully transformed into sedans to be introduced as refreshed avatars. The Japanese auto giant seems set to repeat the same story of success, which will help it to expand its product portfolio in the country.

Chief Executive Officer of the company, Takanobu Ito, quoted, “In India, an all-new diesel engine will be adopted sequentially to new models starting in FY2014. In addition to the high fuel efficiency, the cost competitiveness of the all-new diesel engine will be enhanced through local sourcing and local production to make new diesel models more affordable for customers.”

Reportedly, the company will not introduce diesel engine options in its existing models like Brio, Jazz and City. Rather it will add new models to the line-up, which are expected to sparkle at the Indian shores before the end of next financial year.
