The Indian subsidiary of Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda recently launched its new initiative named 'Women Empowerment'. Launched in the national capital, this program recognises the need for helping women feel more independent and empowered on the road. For this purpose, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. shook hands with the Delhi Police to organise Road Safety Workshop and 'Self Defence Training Camp'.

The 'Self Defence Training Camp' is being held at Nanak Pura (Training hall, Special Police Unit for Women & Children), Model Town (Kirpal Bagh Ashram, Kingsway Camp) and Jamia Millia Islamia University (Sports Complex). This camp which started on May 14, 2013 will be held for a week till May 22, 2013. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is also planning to add a fourth venue considering the summer breaks in universities and schools. This would be Sneh International School, Rajdhani Enclave, adjacent to Karkari Mor. The camp will be held at this location from May 20 – June 5, 2013 and registrations for the same opened on May 17, 2013.

At these camps, Honda is exclusively imparting road safety guidelines to women by using various advanced technologies. First time women riders are made to grasp the nuances of two-wheeler riding by means of imported riding trainer machines. This machine is capable of simulating more then 110 sticky traffic conditions and familiarise riders with this situations for precaution in a safe manner. There are trained safety riding instructors at these camps, who help women to get familiar with the vehicle and also give them safe mounting, dismounting and basic riding tips.

      Y. S. Guleria, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Moorcycle and Scooter India, said, “As a socially responsible 2Wheeler company, Honda strongly celebrates the fact that today every female wants to feel truly independent, empowered and in control of their lives. Till date, Honda has empowered over 12,000 women and aims to further promote safe riding among women through such collaborations.”

In addition to the above, Honda is also planning to provide free-of-cost riding training to women across a number of traffic parks in Delhi. The registration for the same is open to interested female riders at the ongoing camps. These measures will certainly prove to be very helpful for increasing the safety of women riders in the country.
