Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Private Limited (HMSI), a completely owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., witnessed a staggering sales numbers of more than 50,000 units on the day of Dhanteras alone on domestic turf. The country's largest scooter selling firm registered a 138 per cent increase in the unified sales of bikes and scooters on November 10, 2012 as compared to units sold on the same day last year. The astonishing numbers are highest in the company's history after its separation with ex-partner Hero MotoCorp this year.

Reportedly, sales of 50,000 units of motorcycles and scooters witnessed by HMSI are the second largest on this year's Dhanteras after Hero MotoCorp, which sold some 1 lac units on the same day. Further, most of HMSI retail outlets in central and north Indian states ran out of stock by late Dhanteras evening.

Expressing his delight at the remarkable sales recorded by company on 2012 Diwali eve, Y. S. Guleria, Vice President (VP), Sales and Marketing, HMSI said, “We sold more than double of the 21,000 bikes and scooters delivered last year. Customer sentiment was terrific and, in fact, if we had more stocks, out tally would have been higher this time around,” he added. HMSI ran out of its flagship Activa scooter and the newly launched Dream Yuga bike at many of its dealerships on Sunday.”

Evidently, most of the car makers and bike makers have reported great sales on this year's Dhanteras day as compared to number of units sold on the same day last year. The Dhanteras marks an auspicious day for Indians as it is customary to make big investments and buying gifts on the occasion. As expected the Diwali festivities did wonders for the automobile firms and helped them in clearing out their inventories and dealership stocks.
