Honda has been working on developing a small sporty car for quite some time now. This time around, fresh reports indicate that the Japanese car manufacturer patented a new cabin design with a floating instrument cluster and a new roof structure for its targa top vehicle. The new developments might be be implemented in the upcoming sports car.

      Honda targa roof patent

Based on what can be seen, the line drawings depict a vehicle cabin without a traditional instrument panel. The vehicle will instead get a slim screen attached to the steering column. It is believed that the new design element will offer better driver visibility which is vital in driving a performance car. The design further reveals that the vehicle will get a tall centre stack with a wide infotainment screen that sits on top. The two sides of the dashboard have an inward pointing design. Below that, the vehicle gets a prominent knob along with a small touchpad at the base of the centre console.

The illustrations for the new roof concept indicate a removable top from the Honda S660 kei-class roadster. Based on what can be seen, the document reveals a canvas panel with a metal frame that is attached to the top of a windshield and goes to a point which is behind the occupants. The canvas rolling function will be controlled by a motor and will fit neatly in the rear section. Although reports indicate on a possibility of a detachable roof being offered to lose weight for better performance, it is likely that the roof will get a light weight material with an electric motor.

As of now, not many details of the small sport car are known, however, we will keep you updated with the same as it comes our way in the days to come.
