Japanese auto giant Honda has displayed the next-generation Civic with a couple of new concept versions at the Detroit motor show. These concept versions include a coupe and a saloon, featuring a completely refreshed styling based on European Civic Type R model and borrowing a few styling cues from the CR-Z hybrid.

Initially, the company will launch the next generation Civic model in the North American market by the second quarter of calendar year 2011. However, the cars previewed at the Detroit auto show are only US-bound cars and are expected to be different from the new-generation Civic that will be offered in rest of the markets.

The European version of the Honda Civic will sport company’s next-generation of petrol engine, delivering improved performance, emission and consumption. It is also expected to come in a diesel version with a smaller capacity diesel engine that is currently in the development stage. The company is also preparing to introduce a new Honda Civic Hybrid by year 2012 that could be built at Honda’s new plug-in hybrid platform.

“Honda must provide good products to our customers with speed, affordability and low CO2 emissions,” Honda CEO Takanobu Ito said in a recent statement.
