Honda City crosses 7 lakh sales milestone in India

Honda had introduced the City in 1998 in the Indian market. The sedan has seen four generations so far, with the first three generations offered only as the petrol model. The current fourth generation is also available with a diesel engine option too that has pushed the sales for the carmaker.

The City was facelifted early this year and continues to offer the option of a 1.5-litre petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options include a five-speed manual or CVT for the petrol, but only a manual gearbox for the diesel trim. The automatic has been an important volume grosser for Honda as 30 percent of City customers have opted for this CVT variant. Globally, the City sedan has registered cumulative sales of over 3.6 million units in more than 60 countries, with the current-generation model accounting for over 1 million units.
