It has been a while since Japanese car maker, Honda, took off the lid from the fourth generation version of City sedan. As soon as the car was unveiled, it garnered the attention of many buyers in India owing to announcement that Honda will be introducing diesel technology in City for first time. Apart from this, the company also announced several key additions in comfort and convenience that created a buzz among customers. According to industry experts, Honda City diesel will have a significant impact in the Indian car market mainly due to the new engine option. Experts have already predicted that the new generation model of City would render superior performance that would be able to better standards set by rival cars.
As earlier announced by Honda, it would give away the newly developed 4-cylinder 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine in City. Sources claim that the company is betting high on mileage and performance of this sedan. Developed keeping in mind road conditions in India, the new engine is based on 'Earth Dreams Technology.' However, the company has refrained from divulging further details about power and torque figures for Honda City but reports have indicated that the i-DTEC engine of Amaze will be fine tuned by a fair bit to generate more output. On the other hand, petrol version of Honda City would be equipped with the tried and tested 1.5-litre 4 cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine. However, sources have said that the petrol powertrain of next generation City would bear numerous advancements to give best balance between engine performance and fuel economy.
Talking more about the performance of the i-DTEC engine, Honda is claiming that it would give away best-in-class mileage in its upcoming sedan. Experts have already said that this might work well for Honda as the main reason behind the success of Amaze in India was its excellent fuel economy. Under ARAI tests, the diesel powered Amaze gives away an average of 25.8 kmpl under different road conditions. The i-DTEC engine in Amaze not only gives excellent mileage figures but also excels in keeping maintenance costs in check. Coming to the competition of Honda City in India, Hyundai Verna will be its closest rival as it faring exceptionally well in the mid-size sedan segment. The sedan from Hyundai is fitted with powerful engine configurations apart from the long list of features. It will be interesting to see the rivalry between the two cars once Honda City makes inroads in India.
