Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) sold 4242 units in December 2012 with a 4-fold increase against 1072 models delivered in the corresponding month of 2011. The reason cited for this significant growth relates to stabilisation in Thailand's economic situation, as HCIL has been able to recover after flood affected its operations.

As sales break up, the auto maker managed to deliver 1442 units of award winning sedan City, 2286 units of small car Brio, 365 units of premium hatchback Jazz, 70 units of Civic and 79 units of Accord in December 2012. Apart from domestic sales, 422 units were exported from India during the month.

The company is quite hopeful for 2013 as it has ventured into the diesel market in India for the very first time. Following this, an entry level sedan, Amaze, would be launched in 2013, which is to be powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The same motor may also be incorporated to power Honda Jazz in near future. It is possible that if these vehicles are priced appropriately vis-a-vis competition, they could completely turn around Honda's fortunes in India.
