Honda India, the domestic arm of Japanese auto maker, seems to be working on the development of a new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), based on the platform of Brio. From some sketches released by the auto maker, industry experts are of a view that the upcoming model will have a low slung roof and long wheelbase. Reports suggest that the styling of the model will be quite aggressive, which will surely take the domestic buyers by storm.

Anticipated to be pitched against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda’s new MPV is likely to score well in the department of engine. Auto analysts believe that the model will be equipped with a performance oriented engine, which will have a displacement of around 1500 cc. With a maximum power output of 100 bhp, the upcoming model from Japanese auto maker will deliver an instant throttle response. Also, rumours are taking rounds of the statement that Honda City’s current 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine can be also packed within the Brio-based MPV.

The diesel variant of the Honda Brio MPV will be powered by the Earth Dreams technology, one of the most successful developments by the Japanese car maker. Notably, the same technology was used in the Honda Amaze, which has made a huge impact on the Indian car market. It must be noted that although the new model from Honda will be introduced as a compact MPV, it will feature three row of seats. It is believed that the Brio-based MPV will sport aggressive styling, brilliant curves and a performance oriented engine. Experts are of a view that post launch, the Honda's MPV will give Ertiga a true run for its money.

It is expected that the model will be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, with the production model being launched somewhere in middle of the next year. Honda, like a lot of other foreign car makers, has plans of introducing multiple vehicles in Indian car market. The Brio-based MPV is one of the many cars that will enter the Indian auto market in coming years. Honda is also going to introduce diesel versions of the new Jazz and City. Apart from these, it is also planning to bring-in a diesel version of the Brio hatchback by 2015.
