Honda’s latest offering for the Indian market – the BR-V, has done quite well since its launch. The crossover model, in fact, has received 10,000 bookings since its official launch on May 5. Interestingly, Honda has revealed that it’s got equal buyer preference in petrol and diesel variants.

The BR-V, as we know, is based on the Mobilio but it features a longer wheelbase, wider front and rear track and a higher ground clearance. In keeping with its SUV positioning in the market, Honda has added rugged looking bits like the chunky roof rails and the plastic body cladding for better road presence.

The BR-V is available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol-powered car gets the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine that makes 118bhp of power and 145Nm of torque while the diesel houses a 100bhp/200Nm 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit. Both these engines already power a range of Honda models including the City, the Mobilio and the Jazz.

A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on all cars. Additionally, Honda is offering a CVT for the petrol powered BR-V. The latter also comes with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel for better control over the gearbox. The petrol BR-V has a company claimed fuel efficiency of 15.4kmpl for the manual version and 16kmpl for the CVT version. The diesel model fares much better, at 21.9kmpl.
