      Honda and Toyota postpone their Indian plans

      The leading Japanese auto makers including Toyota and Honda have been forced to reschedule their Indian plans due to the recent devastating earthquakes in their base market. It is to be mentioned here that Toyota has postponed the launch of first ever compact hatchback – Etios Liva – to June 2011 from April this year. On the other hand, Honda has also postponed its plans of previewing its much awaited compact hatchback – Brio – in the country that was earlier scheduled to be previewed on 17th March.

      The Etios Liva is one of the most awaited car models in the Indian market. The car will be shelved in the price bracket of sub Rs 4 lakh where it will be taking on with likes of Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo.

      In a statement issued on Monday, Japanese auto giant Honda said, “In light of the recent devastating earthquake that hit Japan, causing massive damage to life and property, Honda Siel Cars India has postponed the Honda Brio India preview event scheduled to be held on March 17. ”

      The Honda Brio is the first ever compact hatchback from Honda in the Indian market that is slated to be rolled-out in the country by the last quarter of this year. The Brio model will be rolled-out in the price segment of sub Rs 5 lakh where it will be competing with the likes of Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Volkswagen Polo, etc.
