Honda Amaze to take on competition from Ford Classic

Honda Cars India Limited, a completely owned subsidiary of the Japanese auto maker Honda Motor Company, is all geared up for the launch of its new Amaze entry level sedan in the domestic car market on April 11, 2013. The stunning soon-to-be launched Honda Amaze is pegged to become the company’s next big volume puller in the country.

Honda Cars India will pitch its Amaze entry level in a stiff face off against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Tata Indigo eCS, Chevrolet Sail, Ford Classic and Mahindra Verito. Swift DZire is the undisputed champion in the entry level sedan segment of the Indian auto market and it will be interesting to see how the upcoming Honda Amaze handles it. The Ford Classic is another interesting entry level sedan in the segment, which is battling the intense competition to lure the domestic car buyers.

Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of Ford Classic, the entry level sedan comes fitted with a 1.6 litre petrol engine that churns out a peak power output of 100 bhp at 6500 rpm, along with highest torque delivery of 146 Nm. Further, the diesel trim comes equipped with a 1.4 litre motor rated with maximum power and torque output equation of 67 bhp at 4000 and 160 Nm, respectively. On other hand, the soon-to-be launched Honda Amaze will derive its power from 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines. The Amaze’s 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol motor could roll a peak output power close to 87 bhp, whereas the 1.5 litre i-DTEC Honda Earth Dreams engine produces an impressive peak output power of 99 bhp. Hence, the Honda Amaze definitely seems to possess an edge over Ford Classic in terms of engine performance.

Speaking of fuel economy figures, Ford Classic diesel commands an impressive mileage around 30 kmpl, whereas its petrol delivers figures of 18.3 kmpl. Honda has claimed that its Amaze diesel delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 27.8 kmpl. Therefore, only time will decide how the two models fare against each other in the entry level sedan segment of the country.

At present, the Ford Classic range starts from Rs. 5.6 lakh and goes on till Rs. 8 lakh in the domestic passenger car market. Sources suggest that the Honda Amaze could carry introductory price tags between Rs. 5.5 and 7.5 lakh, upon its arrival in India. Experts are of the opinion that Honda Amaze will deliver better value-for-money than the Ford Classic.
