HMIL also registered an incredible climb of 50 per cent in the number of vehicles exported, which stood at 23,007 units during October 2012, as compared to 15,321 units leaving the Indian shores in the corresponding month last year. Accordingly, the South Korean auto major's cumulative sales zoomed to 58,785 units for the October month of 2012, when the company managed to sell just 48,322 units in the same month last year.

Expressing his delight on the promising 21 per cent growth in aggregate sales during October 2012, Rakesh Srivastava, Vice President (VP), Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The festivals brought in positive growth in domestic sales with resurgence in petrol variants. All models showed a growth especially with strong demand of Eon and Elantra. In the coming months the challenge would be to convert customer interest into sales as the general inflationary trend, high fuel prices and interest rates are still keeping the customer sentiment low.”

Commenting on the rise in number of total vehicles exported, Srivastava further added, “We are witnessing good volumes in South Africa and Mexico along with many other countries. The i10 and i20 are being particularly well received in these countries.”

In October 2012, HMIL sold 50,146 units in the A2 segment, comprising sales of its entry-level Eon, compact i10 and premium compact i20 hatchbacks, while the sales in A3 segment including Accent and Verna sedans amounted to 7,895 units. Further, the company registered sales of 668 units in the A4 segment featuring Elantra saloon and the sales in A5 segment, comprising premium luxury Sonata sedan and Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Santa Fe stood at 20 and 56 units, respectively.
