      Hindustan Motors kicks off the assembly of Pajero Sport locally

      Hindustan Motors, the one of the pioneer auto makers of Indian auto industry, has officially declared that it has started the local assembly of Pajero Sport SUV on behalf of its Japanese partner, Mitsubishi. Following this move, the company has reduced the price of its model by around Rs. 1.8 lacs and thus, it is now being sold for Rs. 22.56 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

      The Managing Director of Hindustan Motors, Uttam Bose said, “We are pleased to announce our start of production of the Pajero Sport in our Tiruvallur plant and are happy to extend the price benefit to our customers... Pajero Sport will look at capturing 20 per cent of the premium SUV segment in the country.”

      Since the model will be manufactured in the domestic market, the auto maker is planning to roll out more than 400 units as the plant has the potential to raise its production, based on the demand from the market. He further said, “India has in the recent past seen an increased desire for SUVs. Pajero Sport will further consolidate its position in the Indian market.”

      Presently, the Pajero Sport is produced by using around 14 per cent of the local content and the auto maker is looking ahead to take the localisation up to 30 per cent before the end of next fiscal.

      In a statement the company said, “Currently, components like tyre, battery, window glass, seat belts, lamps, wiper assembly, alloy wheels and headlining are the major items, which are being localised at its Tiruvallur plant.”

      Speaking on the dealerships, the company said that the Hindustan Motors has maintained the Mitsubishi dealers at around 40 locations, comprising three show windows and four service units. The car maker said that it is planning to take the count of dealerships to 55 by the end of 2012.
