      Hero MotoCorp to sponsor the qualifying events of Olympic hockey

      The India based leading two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL), which is one of the largest two-wheeler maker in the global market, announced on Tuesday that it will be sponsoring the qualifying matches for the London Olympics 2012, for both man’s and women’s hockey.

      The man’s and women’s hockey qualifiers are scheduled to be held from 18th to 26th February, in the National Capital. Hero FIH Road to London, as named by the firm, is one of the three leg Olympic qualifying events for the forth coming Olympic events.

      As many as six teams will be participating in the qualifying events in both man’s and women’s categories, out of which only two teams will be able to qualify for the Olympics (one from each category), which is scheduled to be held in July 2012.

      Speaking on the company’s proposed sponsorship for the event, Hero MotoCorp Ltd Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Pawan Munjal said, "Hockey, being the national sport of the country, holds a special place in our hearts. We are pleased to partner with FIH in presenting the Hero FIH Road to London Olympic Hockey Qualifiers."

      He added that the firm is sure there are millions of hockey fans across the country who want to see a revival of the glorious hockey days of yore. Hero MotoCorp, therefore, consider it an absolute privilege to be playing their small role in reigniting the passion and popularity of hockey in the country.
