The country’s largest two-vehicle maker Hero MotoCorp, which has been continuously working on developing self dependent technologies since its separation from Japanese firm Honda, has now said that it is keen on building in-house technologies to develop its own engines. It is to be mentioned here that the firm has already joined hands with Austria based AVL, which is currently world's largest privately-owned engine developer.

While speaking to ET on its future technology development plans, MD & CEO Hero MotoCorp, Mr. Pawan Munjal said, "We have tied up with AVL to develop our in-house capabilities in engine technologies. A team from our R&D division is already in Austria. Our team is also working in close coordination with AVL India Technology Center based in Gurgaon. The team is working on a few options across motorcycles and scooters."

At present, Hero MotoCorp is facing tough competition from its closest rival Bajaj in the country. Thus, the new tie-ups will certainly help the firm in upgrading its vehicles like CBZ to the next level, enabling these to compete more promptly with rivals like Bajaj.
