Harley Davidson fans in the country may not be exactly pleased with this bit of revelation, especially after a glamorous launch of the Street 750 at an interesting price tag of 4.1 lakh. Back then news had been doing rounds that the American bike-maker shall also launch the smaller version rechristened as Street 500 sometime soon in the Indian market. Fresh reports suggest that the bike shall only be manufactured for the American and European markets.

The Harley Davidson Street 500 is powered by 494 cc liquid cooled, V-Twin, 4-valves engine that has been mated to a six speed gearbox. Surprisingly the bike generates only about 32 Bhp of power, but this is exactly what is expected of a Beginner bike (Bikes sold in UK that are underpowered due to law that require it to be within 34 Bhp). The numbers don't seem impressive especially since the bike features a liquid cooled engine. The company officials have stated this factor to a major reason as to why the bike would not be available for the Indian market. Currently, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 is stated to be faster and more affordable that than the Street 500 version, hence there was always a possibility for the bike failing in the local market.

The recently launched Street 750 from Harley Davidson is powered by V-Twin engine. The four stroke engine in the Street 750 features a single overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder. The cruiser comes with built-in fuel injection technology and is liquid cooled. The powerful 750 engine has been mated to 6 speed manual gearbox. It is also worth noting that, currently the Street 750 is the most affordable bike amongst the Harley Davidson production line in India. Moreover private banks like ICICI and HDFC had come up with interesting finance schemes that made the bike even more affordable and joyful to own.

The Street 500 shall also be manufactured at Bawal, Haryana plant alongside the Street 750 that is produced for the local as well as international market. Though it seems unbelievable, that even though both the bikes are produced in an Indian plant, yet only one makes it to the local market. Looking at a positive aspect from the scenario, the truth is, we still have the Street 750 that is powerful and peppier than what the Street 500 could have been.
