The latest price cut is actually a result of the American bike maker’s localized assembly operations from its manufacturing facility on Indian turf. At present, the domestic arm of Harley Davidson has a strong 13 model lineup in the market, of which 6 cruiser bikes are assembled at the local production unit. As per a report by Wall Street Journal, Harley Davidson India is planning to setup more cruiser bike assembly plants in the country, by the end of December 2013.

Commenting on the upcoming manufacturing units of the company, Anoop Prakash, Managing Director (MD), Harley Davidson India, has been quoted as saying, “We have a dealer in Kolkata right now that serves our customers in the northeast. As critical mass builds, we may open another dealership.” He further added, “We find demand for premium products in India is scaling up... also, Harley-Davidson is a lifestyle - it doesn't make sense to compare us to other automotive companies.”

As per reports, demand for powerful and exorbitantly priced high end motorcycles are surging in the Indian market, with many bike enthusiasts loving the idea of having Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Yamaha and BMW models in their garages. The growth prospects are high and Harley Davidson India looks ready for greater market share, with the latest price cut and production expansion plans in the country.
