      Governments National Automotive Board to soon promote sustainable auto sector growth

      The auto sector of India, which is one of the leading sectors of the economy, will be soon governed by a specialized body, National Automotive Board, aiming at achieving a high growth rate for the automobile sector in tandem with the other major sectors operating in the economy. The specialized body will be operative from the month of April with the motive of achieving rational development Indian auto sector.

      Official sources have confirmed that the proposal for setting up the National Automotive Board will be approved by the Cabinet before March, soon after it receives clearance from the Department of Heavy Industry.

      The board will comprise of representatives from the Planning Commission, Science and Technology, Department of Heavy Industry, Environment and Forest ministry and ministry of Road Transport and Highways, also including scientists and other representatives from various industries.

      The board will pose as a coordinator for the industry and the Government indulging in promoting research and development and assuming greater role in development activities undertaken for the progress of the automotive sector.

      The National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP) initiated for regulation of the automotive testing and the R & D centers in the country will be succeeded by the National Automotive Board as the NATRIP project successfully accomplished the task of upgrading the countrywide automotive testing and R & D centres.
