      GM India to launch six new models in two years

      General Motors (GM) India is planning to launch six new car models in coming two years with 14 fuel variants, a top company official said on Saturday.

      Initially, the company will roll-out the diesel version of its popular compact hatchback Chevrolet Beat by the end of second quarter of year 2011, followed by a new version of Captiva and BS-IV version of Tavera.

      According to a statement given by Mr. P. Balendran, Vice president at GM India, “We plan to roll out a series of new products in the next 24 months”. He was speaking at the launching ceremony of Chevrolet Beat Smartech and LPG engine.

      The company is in expansion phase as it plans to launch light commercial vehicles in the country by the end of this year. GM India’s Halol manufacturing plant has an annual capacity of 85,000 units to which the company is planning to take to the 1 lakh units by the end of year 2011. On the other hand, the company’s plant located at the Talegaon Maharashtra has the capacity of 140,000 units, taking the total manufacturing capacity of the company to 225,000 cars per year.
