General Motors India and other Asia-specific operations have been acquired by the new re-structured General Motors Company. According to the press release GM India will be an important part of the company.

“Today marks a new beginning for General Motors, one that will allow every employee to get back to the business of designing, building and selling great cars and trucks and serving the needs of our customers,” said Fritz Henderson, President and CEO. One thing we have learned from the last 100 days is that GM can move quickly and decisively,” said Henderson. “Today, we take the intensity, the speed and the commitment of the past several months and transfer it from the triage of the bankruptcy process to the creation and operation of a new General Motors,” he added.

The official statement also mentioned that all the subsidiaries acquired by the new General Motor Company will continue to operate normally without any interruption. “GM will continue to remain aggressive in India in order to take advantage of opportunities as they arise,” said Mr. Karl Slym, President & Managing Director, General Motors India. “Our goal is to continue to provide the best cars to our customers across the country while taking advantage of the extensive global resources offered by the new General Motors Company.”

General Motors India is planning to launch its cross over model Cruze by September this year. It has already launched Chevrolet Captiva Automatic earlier this year. Its new sedan Cruze will reach the dealers shortly and will be on sale in coming few months. It also intends to bring another small car to India by end of this year. Its small car model Spark is highly successful and the company has recently launched the LPG version of the same. GM India is also working on bringing more LPG and CNG variants of its existing models.
