Sources reveal that General Motors’ global powertrain chief, Dan Nicholson is positive about partnering with other businesses to share their second generation Volt’s powertrain setup.

Car buyers may soon be able to enjoy this award-winning powertrain from the Chevrolet Volt under the bonnet of a car of their choice if Dan Nicholson is able to get his way. "We want to be the partner of choice in propulsion system development in this complex and turbulent era we are approaching," he said.

The Chevy Volt's motor would be an ideal option for any car maker that needs an electric powerhouse. This unit combines a 1.5-litre four cylinder engine with two electric motors and an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery. It is this powertrain that was on the list of the 10 best engines for 2016, and the Chevy Volt won the green car of the year award.

Though an official word is not out yet, GM will definitely benefit from the larger scales of economy to drive down prices. As for the rivals, this means they can get their hands on an acclaimed powertrain without indulging in the huge expenses involved.
