After releasing a couple of teasers, Mitsubishi has taken the wraps off the Eclipse Cross ahead of its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This will be a new mid-sized crossover that will slot in below the between the ASX and Outlander in the Japanese SUV maker’s lineup. The moniker has been resurrected but this time around has been put on the back of a crossover rather than a sporty two-door coupe as was the case previously.

The images reveal, as we had suspected, a coupe SUV design quite similar to the XR-PHEV II concept that was showcased in 2013. Noticeable elements for the car include the large Mitsubishi family face, flared wheel arches and Mitsubishi specific tail lamps.

Step inside the cabin and you are greeted by a combination of a black and silver adorning a familiar Mitsubishi cabin. Standard features for this car include climate control, a free standing display for the infotainment system, foldable seats with leather upholstery and probably electrically adjustable front seats.

It will be offered with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine or a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The former can be had with a CVT while the diesel is offered with an eight-speed AT. The company has said that 4WD will be on offer but we are not yet sure if it’s a standard fitment or will be an optional extra.

The car will be showcased alongside the ASX, Outlander and LC200 at the Mitsubishi stall during the motor show.
