      Geneva 2017: New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift revealed

      Suzuki’s Swift has always been an important product for the Japanese automaker globally. In India, the Swift hatchback has been a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s overall sales. At the ongoing 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Suzuki has unveiled the new generation Swift. The hatchback gets a complete new makeover and is now based on a new-generation "HEARTECT" platform. Along with it being lightweight, it also claims to be highly rigid.

      The new Suzuki Swift gets a 1.2-litre DUALJET petrol engine that has been tuned to offer an additional 5 per cent improved fuel economy. For performance enthusiasts, the vehicle is also offered with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet direct-injection turbo engine. Additionally, this time around, Suzuki’s renowned mild-hybrid SHVS technology has also been offered. As for India, we will get the tweaked versions of the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine which will offer improved performance as well as efficiency figures. This time around we might also see an AMT variant being offered at the time of its launch. Sometime later the automaker might also offer a 1.0-litre BoosterJet direct-injection turbo variant.

      The new-gen Swift claims to be around 120kgs lighter than its predecessor, and weighs as little as 840kgs. To put things into perspective, the vehicle will be about 25kgs lighter than the Baleno. The boot space has gone up to 265-litres, thereby offering an additional 54-litres. The international bound model comes loaded with six airbags, ESP, lane departure warning, high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, a weaving alert function and Suzuki’s Dual Sensor Brake Support system. As for India, we might get multiple airbags and ABS as standard at the time of launch. Though unconfirmed for now, we might also see many of the international safety specs on the new model as the brand will try to position itself above its competitor, the Hyundai Grand i10.
