      General Motors records marginal sales growth of 12.75 percent in March 2012

      The Indian subsidiary of the American multi-national automaker, General Motors has recorded a marginal rise in its sales volume of 12.75 percent for the month of March this year. The sales figures has surged from 9,391 units recorded in March 2011 to 10,588 units this year.

      The sales rise majorly comprised the sale of Chevrolet Beat Diesel due to the rising demand for diesel powered cars amidst hike in petrol prices.

      Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President of General Motors India, said, "The great demand for the Beat and Tavera has boosted our performance in March. The growth was primarily driven by India's most fuel efficient vehicle, Chevrolet Beat Diesel."

      While the small cars, Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Beat took its sales count to 1,879 units and 5,638 units respectively, the sales of the sedan segment ruled by Chevrolet Aveo, Optra and Cruze totaled to 107 units, 123 units and 722 units respectively.

      Moreover, the SUV Chevrolet Captiva scored sales of 44 units and Tavera, its MPV recorded impressive sale of 2,075 units in the last month.

      On the recently launched Tavera Neo 3 BS IV, Mr. Balendran commented, "While the Tavera has performed phenomenally, we hope the new Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BS IV, launched recently in 13 cities, will further strengthen the performance."

      With the upcoming launch of its new hatchback Sail and MPV Enjoy along with a newer version of Chevrolet Captiva, the company is setting up a base for multi-fold hike in sales volume in this fiscal year.
