'Tier 1' suppliers have stated GM as their least favorite big customer. As per rankings, the carmaker is even lesser popular than Chrysler, which is a unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, that has constantly earned dubious distinction since 2008. PPI said, “As a result, GM is now the least preferred customer of suppliers.” John Henke, the head of PPI and a research fellow at Center for Supply Chain Management at Rutgers University, said, “Could be entering an era in supplier relations that doesn't bode well for the U.S. Big Three." the US big three probably refers to Ford, Genral Motors and Chrysler.

About 55% of the supplier have stated their relationship and experience with the brand as “poor to very poor” as against 48% noted last year. On PPI's Supplier Working Relations Index, Toyota Motor Co and Honda Motor Co Ltd has held the first and second positions repectively, whereas third and fourth positions have been held by Nissan Motor Company Ltd and Ford Motor Company.
