General Motors India is set to launch its latest offering, the Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) Enjoy today. This vehicle takes on competition directly from the market segment leader, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, along with other utility vehicles such as Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia. However, management at Chevrolet is confident that the Enjoy will do as well as its recent sedan vehicle, the Sail, which has already sold in excess of 8000 vehicles since its launch in February this year.

The Enjoy is to be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the 1.4 litre petrol engine produces 103 bhp of power, the 1.3 litre diesel version generates 76 bhp of power. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic transmission for this car. Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) levels are quite low in the Enjoy and are only audible close to the floor. Surprisingly, the diesel version is quieter than the petrol version. By providing a powerful petrol option, General Motors brings in a level of refinement for its customers. Interestingly, utility vehicles such as Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia do not provide petrol options.

Biggest selling points for the Enjoy are going to be its space and practicality. A wheelbase of 2720 mm helps create substantial legroom and headroom for occupants. Over long distances, comfort of the seats is also good. The top end variant of this vehicle also comes with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Assist (EBD) and dual airbags. In addition, a 12V charging point has been provided for laptops or mobile phones kept in the third row of seats.

At its competitive price, the Chevrolet Enjoy also competes with compact Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) such as Mahindra Quanto, Renault Duster and Premier Rio. A lot would depend on whether buyers want the brawn of an SUV or the comfort and space of an MUV. Only time will tell what happens of the new Chevrolet Enjoy in the Indian auto market.
