General Motors India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the American auto maker General Motors, seems to have developed some production issues at its Talegaon manufacturing facility. The company's subdivision Chevrolet India has stopped making diesel powered models of the Sail siblings and BS III model of Tavera. As per few industry sources, the production process has been set back by minor technical glitches that have been recognised in the above mentioned cars.

After coming across the technical faults, General Motors India has even informed its authorised retail outlets to stop selling the diesel Chevy Sail siblings and BS III Tavera cars. The company would rectify faults first before putting the defective models back on the market. At present, the Chevrolet Sail entry level sedan is the American car maker's best selling product in the Indian auto market. Therefore, stoppage in production of the Sail sedan would hurt the company most. However, the sales of Chevrolet Sail U-VA premium hatch and Chevrolet Tavera Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) have been 'not-so' great lately in the country.

As per reports, the technical glitches are present only in diesel powered vehicles and the production of petrol cars is going on smoothly at General Motors' Talegaon manufacturing facility. Chevrolet India has stated that the diesel powertrains fitted in the Sail siblings and Tavera MUV have a few quality issues that are needed to be fixed. Industry experts have opined that the halt in production could soon be followed by a vehicle recall, if the addressed technical issue poses some major consequences.
