Reports dated 2013 brought to light that Chrysler was working on a ‘Hurricane’ motor that’s originally based on the existing 2.0-litre Tigershark engine. Sources now reveal that this motor could find its way on to the next generation Jeep Wrangler.

It’s expected that this Hurricane engine could unleash about 300bhp, which means that it is at a higher level of specific output (150bhp/litre) vis-à-vis the 1.75-litre Alfa Romeo 4C. FCA’s 4C is one of the car maker's most stressed engines at 120bhp/litre. While the much larger 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 makes a relatively close 285bhp, the Hurricane with its smaller capacity, eight-speed transmission and aluminium construction will make the vehicle benefit through a much better fuel consumption. FCA uses a new turbo charger and variable valve timing to derive the resultant performance and frugality out of this small motor.

FCA launched the Wrangler and Cherokee in India at the Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year, and could bring this engine to their Indian line-up after being introduced internationally.
