Toyota Suzuki alliance will be introducing four electrified models in India by 2021. Maruti Suzuki had recently started testing the electric version of the Wagon R and is likely to share it with Toyota in the Indian market. Earlier this year, both the companies had also entered into a cross badging agreement for hybrid cars, where Suzuki will supply the Baleno and Vitara Brezza vehicle models to Toyota, while Toyota will supply the Corolla vehicle model to Suzuki.

Reports indicate that the upcoming hybrid car models will come with power outputs ranging from 12 volts to 72 Volts, which in turn is expected to improve fuel efficiency by 5-45 per cent. The proto-type electric-vehicles are being manufactured at the Maruti Suzuki facility in Gurugram, exclusively for fleet testing. It is believed that around 50 units of the prototype have been built at the production line.

As part of plans to prepare for more stringent average fuel economy regulations in 2023, the two companies are reportedly planning to come up with advanced 48-72 hours battery system. The government has also been making an effort to control pollution levels and extending support for electric vehicles.
