      Fortuner from Toyota

      After the successful launch of its latest model, Toyota Corolla in India, Toyota India is now planning to introduce its new model, Fortuner, in India. Toyota is world's largest car company by sales. Howeover, with its meagre 3.5 percent share in Indian auto market, it plans to capture larger market share of world's one of the fastest growing auto market. After its Toyota Corolla, it shall now roll out its off-roader, Fortuner, on the Indian roads.

      “We aim to become a full-range car company in the next few years, and, realistically, it’s a big task. We are finalising plans to introduce several new vehicles from the our stable, aiming a much higher market share in India than the current 3%,” said Toyota’s newly appointed India head Hiroshi Nakagawa. “The new vehicles will be both imported and locally manufactured at our Bangalore facility,” he added.

      The company also plans to launch its small car by 2010. It compact car company, Daihatsu, may also makes its debut in India with its small and compact cars. The new Corolla is priced in Rs. 10-14 Lakh range but Fortuner shall be priced in the range of Rs. 15-19 lakh and shall be pitted against Maruti's Grand Vitara, Honda CRV, Ford Endeavour and GM's Captiva.
