It seems that every car maker in India is developing either a compact SUV or MPV. The growing demand for the recently introduced segments in India is evident with the launch of new entrants in the respective segments. Speculations suggest that the latest car maker to join the band wagon is Ford India which could come up with a MPV. Ford currently has no MPV in its India portfolio, the speculated MPV is said to be based on the Ford Ka Concept. It will take Ford around two years to launch this MPV in India. At the 2014 Auto Expo, Ford unveiled Figo Concept sedan which has taken cues from Ka concept car which was revealed in Brazil. Ford Figo Concept sedan is expected to arrive in India by 2015, therefore we expect the under development MPV to be launched by 2016.
Ford’s MPV is expected to come with same set of engine as in Fiesta. Also the much appreciated 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine which was developed for the EcoSport SUV is also an option for the upcoming MPV. Compact MPV segment has very few offerings; the first car to be launched in this segment was Maruti Ertiga. Maruti Ertiga gave a stiff competition to the then market leader Toyota Innova. Looking at Ertiga’s success, Chevrolet too developed Enjoy MPV. Enjoy has also gained popularity within no time. Honda too is developing a new MPV, Mobilio, which was unmasked at the 12thAuto Expo.
