American automaker Ford has been working on developing an electric vehicle for quite a while now. It is believed that the automaker will be using the Model E naming convention for its upcoming all-electric car. Ford intends on delivering the affordable all-electric car with a 200-mile range and will compete against the likes of Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt. The company will begin the vehicle’s production in 2019.

The good part just doesn’t end here, the American automaker is also working on introducing fully autonomous vehicles for commercial operations. Expected to be introduced in 2021, these vehicles will be used in ride hailing and ridesharing services. To make this a reality, the company is also doubling up its sales team in Silicon Valley and more than doubling the Palo Alto campus. To help with autonomous vehicle development, the company is also investing and collaborating with four startups. The high magnitude of investments and research by Ford Motors will help them deliver more safer, convenient and reliable cars in the future.

Ford’s focus on electric cars and autonomous technology clearly indicate the company’s long term strategy to stay ahead of the competition. The Model E naming convention was Tesla Motors Elon Musk’s first choice for their new vehicle, however, Ford having owned the trademark, the former had to opt for the Model 3. At a later date, Tesla Motors plans to launch the Model Y, which will help the company complete the ‘S3XY’ lineup which they have been longing for some time now. Reports also indicate that the Ford’s Model E will be available in crossover as well as a car, and be offered as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicle.

Chevrolet’s Bolt will be launched later this year, while the Tesla’s Model 3 will be launched in 2017. Though Ford may get its new Model E in 2019, the vehicle will have to get loads of interesting features to make it a strong competitor in the all-electric vehicle segment. More details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
