After unveiling first images of production versionKahatchback andKa+ sedan in Brazil last week, the company has now confirmed that these vehicles will officially be called ‘Ka’ and ‘Ka+ Mais’ only. Ford is expected to launchKahatchback andKa+ sedan in either July or in the month of August in Brazil. FordKa+ sedan will be launched in India as a replacement of ageing Classic sedan however it will vary a tad from the Brazilian model. SimilarlyKahatchback will also be launched in India as the successor model ofFigohatchback and will sport slight modifications as against the Brazil spec hatchback. Both the vehicles will be launched in India by first or second quarter of 2015 and will be manufactured in India at the company’s new facility being built inSanandGujarat. FordFigosedan unlike the Brazil boundKa+ sedan will be a sub-four meter sedan making it qualify for the scanty excise duty levied on cars less than four meters.This will also allow Ford to price the sedan competitively in the entry-level compact sedan segment.
In Brazil these vehicles will be powered with 1.0 litre and a 1.5 litre motors which will be compatible with petrol and ethanol. The 1.0 litre, three cylinder, non-turbocharged engine is a variant of Ford’s frugalEcoBoostengine that is good for 85 Hp. The high displacement 1.5 litre motor has four cylinders that puts up a maximum power output of 111 Hp and will be housed in the high end variants of the vehicles. The same engine set up is offered on theEcoSportSUV in domestic market.
