Moving upward with turbocharged diesel engine technology, Ford has now introduced a new four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue engine. The new engine claims to offer better fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 and NOX emissions. The new technology engine will first be used in new Transit and Transit Custom vans, Europe’s bestselling commercial vehicle.

The EcoBlue diesel engine will be used by Ford to power its future generation of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The engine is stated to be built with similar technology and will perform like the EcoBoost petrol engines. The new engine can be used to generate different power outputs ranging between 97bhp to 234bhp of power. The new engine will not just be powerful but also will be eco-friendly as it has been developed for reduced friction and cleaner combustion system. The new engine will generate about 20 per cent more torque at 1,250rpm as compared to the older 2.0-litre engines.

Speaking about the new engine, Jim Farley, chairman and CEO of Ford of Europe said, “Ford’s EcoBoost created a new standard for petrol engines – smaller, more efficient with surprising performance. That same obsession to innovate for the customer is behind our new Ford EcoBlue diesel engine range. This new engine lifts fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 by over 10 per cent in Transit, part of Europe’s bestselling commercial vehicle line-up and lowering costs for our customers.” The 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine will initially be used in commercial vehicles with different power output figures – 103bhp, 126bhp and 166bhp.

In India, Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine option in the EcoSport has found a lot of takers, owing to its impressive responsive and efficiency figures. With the new 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine first set to serve international markets, it is unlikely to be seen in the Indian market anytime soon.
