      Ford India registers record sales of 83,887 units in year 2010

      Ford India, a subsidiary of US based leading car maker Ford Motors, announced on Friday that it has posted a record sales of 83,887 units in the calendar year 2010. The company’s year-on-year sales in December 2010 surged by about 172 percent over the units sold in December 2009.

      “From Jan to Dec 2010, the company sold 83,887 units and nearly tripled its sales volume against a total of 29,488 cars sold in 2009,” said Anurag Mehrotra, Vice President-Marketing Ford India Private Limited, while briefing to the reporters in Kozhikode.

      The calendar year 2010 has been an outstanding year for the company with its sales surged nearly triple digit growth rates throughout the year. The company registered an impressive annual sales increase of 184 percent in 2010.

      Thrilled by the overwhelming response received by its latest compact hatchback Ford Figo from the Indian buyers, the company is now rapidly expanding its sales and service network in the country. The car maker has already enhanced its dealership network to 170 dealers spread across over 100 Indian cities.

      Moreover, the car maker plans to export its cars to another 48 countries from India in coming months. At present, Ford India dispatches its cars to the foreign markets like South Africa and Nepal.
