      Ford India maintains consistent growth in April-New export market added

      Ford India registered sales of 9,569 units both domestically and globally in the month of April thereby attaining 13 percent growth against last year’s figure. The company managed steady sales growth in the month of April. Domestic wholesales for April were 7,201 units. There has been 103 percent hike in exports compared to April 2011. Against last year’s export of 1,167 vehicles, the company sold 2,368 cars this April, in the international market.

      A new international market, Cape Verde has been added by Figo which increased the number of export market of the company to 35. Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India, said, “Following a very robust first quarter, Ford India continued to register steady sales growth in April despite an overall challenging auto market," He added, "Our exports are increasing and have doubled since last year, and we have held our own in domestic wholesales, contributing to an impressive 13 percent overall increase in sales."

      At Auto China 2012 in Beijing in the month of April, the interior of the upcoming global urban SUV EcoSport has been revealed by the company. The contemporary shape of the new car displayed a sophisticated and modern interior design. EcoSport was displayed by Ford India at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo, in the month of January. Since then, it has created interest in the minds of the car lovers. This car is the second of the eight global models which the company plans to launch in India by the mid-decade.

      In terms of fan following of Ford EcoSport on popular social networking site Facebook, India has surpassed Brazil. In India, the compact SUV will be manufactured at Maraimalai Nagar plant of Ford India, near Chennai. The car will also be manufactured at Chongqing in China, Camaçari in Brazil and Rayong in Thailand. Globally, it will be offered in nearly 100 markets.

      A wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, Ford India was established in 1995. The company is engaged in distributing automobiles and engines, which it manufactures at its Maraimalai Nagar facility. At present, the company offers four models in India, which includes Ford Classic, Endeavour, Figo, and the all new global Fiesta. Global Business Services, which is one of Ford’s operations in India, includes Ford Technology Services India and Ford Business Services Centre.

      Situated in Coimbatore and Chennai, Ford is globally supported by these units in the field of accounting and finance, IT, global analytics and engineering services, financial services and automotive operations support. At present, Ford provides employment to 10,000 professionals in India.
