On October 18, 2012, a senior official of FIPL said that if the new vehicle booking for the last five days goes on the way they are going at present, the declining car sales could show improvement. Reportedly, N. Raja, Vice President (VP), Sales, FIPL addressed reporters in Coimbatore and said that the car sales displayed a negative growth during August and September months of the 2012-13 fiscal, due to several reasons, such as hike in the retail value of the fuels in the country.

The American auto major introduced a revamped version of its popular hatchback Figo in the Indian passenger car market on October 15, 2012. The facelifted Figo is believed to have boosted the company's sales within just four days of its launch and Ford is positive that the new car will break the records of its predecessor model.

Evidently, the erstwhile Figo model became the company's first crowd puller in the Indian market, which pulled off sales of more than 2,34,000 units within just two years of its launch. Accordingly, Ford India has pinned great new hopes from the reworked Figo and believes that domestic car enthusiasts will continue to develop their faith in the brand with many new customers also joining the Ford bandwagon.

Raja affirmed that the surge in bookings during the last five days has heaved a new wave of positivity and optimism in the sector. Besides the Indian festivities during October and November months of 2012 may come in handy for the automobile industry towards recording its peak sales for the ongoing season. Raja also said that the company is working towards launching eight new products by the year 2015.

Reportedly, FIPL has already expanded its dealership network in the country by about 40 per cent over the last two years. The American auto major covered mostly the Tier II and Tier III Indian cities and said that its number of touch points including sales and service facilities might exceed the 500 mark by 2015, from the current 230.
