The Managing Director and President of Ford India, Joginder Singh, has inaugurated the auto maker's first exclusive car parking yard at the premises of Chennai Port, in association with the Chairman of Chennai Port Trust, Atulya Misra. Industry experts are of a view that the dedicated unit at the Chennai Port will boost the exports of Ford models, including the EcoSport compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which are manufactured at the company's Chennai plant.
Experts further said that it is an significant move by the American auto maker, which will surely help it in the long run. Interestingly, Misra and Singh jointly flagged off the export of EcoSport from Chennai Port Trust. It must be noted that the Ford EcoSport has received an overwhelming response from not just the Indian auto market, but also from other regions wherein the compact SUV has been launched.
After inaugurating its first dedicated car parking, the auto maker is now looking ahead to transform India into its export hub for the EcoSport. Auto analysts said that Ford India started its exports from India with Figo hatchback, which will be now followed by EcoSport in a number of right-hand drive markets. Sources close to the development process stated that the company is planning to ship the EcoSport to around 38 countries.
The India model of Ford EcoSport has been offered with an option of three engines. First in-line is the 1.5-litre normally aspirated petrol engine, which is also performing well in the Fiesta sedan. Another petrol option is the mush hyped 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine, which is well appreciated for its brilliant power and fuel efficiency. A diesel variant has been also offered, equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection diesel engine, which again powers the Fiesta sedan. Industry experts feel that it will be really interesting to see that the exports of Ford EcoSport would replicate the same story of success, started by Figo hatchback.
