      Ford Figo compact sedan launch likely in Q2, 2015

      Ford India is readying the next-generation Figo, which is likely to debut by in the second half of 2015. Adding to it, the company is also aiming to enter the growing compact sedan segment. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Ford Figo compact sedan concept was unveiled. It is expected that the production version of the compact sedan will go on sale in the country in the second quarter of 2015. The production of the Figo compact sedan will commence in the first quarter of 2015. The car will be produced at Ford’s new Sanand facility in Gujarat.

      The new factory has the capacity of developing around 240,000 cars every year along with 270,000 engines. The new facility will be used for both domestic and export markets. The hatchback version of the sedan will also be produced at the same facility. Both models will be based on the heavily modified previous generation European Fiesta platform.

      The company has already started trial production at its new factory. The reusing of the platform will help the company keep its price competitive in the market. The Ford Figo twins will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the oil burner is likely to be a 1.5-litre TDCI turbo diesel engine, the petrol version might be a 1.2-litre and naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines. A five-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, while an automatic gearbox as an optional feature.
